Same-day is a promise, not a marketing line
Plenty of carriers advertise "same-day delivery in Brisbane". Far fewer can tell you, on the phone at 11am, exactly when your freight will arrive and what it will cost. The difference comes down to fleet density, dispatch discipline and honest booking cut-offs — not branding.
This guide explains how same-day actually works in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, and how to make sure you're using the right service level for each job.
Hot Shot versus Express: the real difference
Same-day services in Brisbane split into two products:
- Hot Shot — a dedicated vehicle leaves now, drives straight to the pickup, then straight to the drop. Nothing else on the truck. Window is measured in hours.
- Express (Same-Day) — your job joins a same-day route. Pickup is within a window; delivery is before close of business the same day.
Hot Shot is faster and more predictable, but the freight pays for the whole vehicle. Express is cheaper because the cost is shared across multiple drops on the route. A good operations team will recommend the right product for each job rather than upselling Hot Shot by default.
Booking cut-offs that actually hold
Here's the rule of thumb for our SE QLD same-day network:
- Hot Shot Brisbane metro — book any time during business hours; vehicle dispatched within ~30 minutes.
- Express Brisbane metro — book by 2pm for same-day delivery before 5pm.
- Hot Shot Brisbane to Gold Coast — book by 3pm for delivery before close of business.
- Express Brisbane to Gold Coast — book by 11am for same-day delivery.
- Same-day to Sunshine Coast / Toowoomba — possible but priced on a per-job basis; talk to dispatch.
These cut-offs are guides, not gospel. The honest answer to "can you get this to Robina by 4pm?" depends on where the vehicle is right now — which is why we publish live tracking so you can see for yourself.
What same-day costs and why
Same-day pricing reflects three things:
- Distance and time. A 12km Hot Shot inside Brisbane and a 90km Hot Shot to the Gold Coast aren't the same cost.
- Vehicle size. A 1-tonne van costs less per hour than a tail-lift truck. We dispatch the smallest suitable vehicle.
- Time of day. Late-afternoon bookings into peak traffic cost more than mid-morning bookings.
We publish indicative rates per vehicle type on the services page. For exact pricing on your job, get a quote — it takes under a minute.
Common same-day use cases
The jobs we see most often:
- Tyre wholesalers replenishing dealers for in-bay fitments
- Mechanical workshops needing a part to finish a job today
- Construction sites needing materials before a pour or a crew leaves
- Manufacturers covering a stockout before a production run
- Trade businesses recovering a missed item before a job closes
- Event and AV companies moving gear between venues
If any of those describe your day-to-day, same-day freight is probably a routine spend that's worth getting on a proper account rather than booking ad-hoc.
How to make same-day cheaper without losing the service
Three quick wins:
- Use Express by default, Hot Shot by exception. Reserve Hot Shot for jobs where the customer is waiting or the production line is down.
- Consolidate where you can. Two Hot Shots to nearby suburbs in the same hour can often be combined into one job.
- Open an account. Account customers get priced rate cards, not on-the-spot quotes, which means fewer surprises at month end.
